SOLOS: Fantasia Suite

  • Fantasia No. I for solo viola (2019)

Composed for the 2019 Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont. Performed by fellow Curtis musician Beatrice Chen.

This viola solo is titled Fantasia due to the nature of its free and improvisatory construction. The manipulation of small musical cells and their sudden juxtapositions form the modus operandi of this work.

    Fantasia No. VIII for Solo Bassoon was generously commissioned by Geoff Stern, Joan and Barry Miskin, Elise Callander, Jennifer Bryce, and Tony Thomas. It is dedicated to Matthew Kneale. This piece was chosen by the International Double Reed Society as a set work for the 2024 Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Competition for Bassoon.

  • Ollie’s Groove (2021)

    Ollie is my young cousin, who loves to dance. Though the music was written before the title sprang to mind, I thought it was fitting nonetheless, as the music suits Ollie's vibrant and energetic character.

    Composed for the 2021 Violympics with Nathan Cole. A version for viola is also available.

Nineteen Seventy-Three was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Opera House. This work seeks to capture both the broad, imposing grandeur and fine, intricate nuances of the Opera House's immense architectural structures.
